This wedding was near and dear to my heart. My cousin Justin married his longtime girlfriend, Nicole. She has been a part of our family for as long as I can remember, but now it's official! Hooray! We lucked out and it was not raining, a crap-shoot in December in the Northwest! The gorgeous flowers were done by Nicole's best friend & bridesmaid and the food was orchestrated by the groom's mother. There was no shortage of dancing, including the Chicken Dance (much to the DJ's dismay) in memory of our sweet grandma Heidi. Congratulations you two, love you both tons! <3

The love that these families have for one another is contagious. If you haven't already, you will fall in love with this couple as you see Rafik look at his new bride in admiration. Make-A-Wish - Tonkin Golf Tournament 2016 | SW Washington Photographer

This year the Ron Tonkin golf tournament at Lewis River raised $42,819.93 for Make-A-Wish Oregon. Almost 40 golf teams teed off in a scramble, bought mulligans, raffle tickets and met a sweet girl named Katie who shared her story with them. For her wish, she took her family to Hawaii and swam with dolphins. Thanks to Make-A-Wish Oregon, they were able to fulfill her wish along with many others. Tournaments like these help the foundation tremendously and provide multiple kids with their wishes.

I knew I liked this couple from the moment I met them, but had no idea how much! Darcie's amazing taste and attention to detail made for a gorgeous setting. Their laid-back attitude set the stage for a day without stress. Then to top it off, the families of Darcie and Scott just melted my heart. Darcie's niece requested a song for the DJ, so she could dance with her father, meanwhile, Darcie's other brother grabbed their mom to dance along with. It was such a touching moment to end the perfect day. The happiness and excitement is felt in the photos, it is hard not to smile along with them.

{ Make-A-Wish/Tonkin Golf Tournament 2015 } | SW Washington Photographer

This was the 12th year that the Ron Tonkin Family of Dealerships put on a golf tournament for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Every year they are able to raise enough money to fund several wishes for the Make-A-Wish families by doing this one tournament! I have been lucky enough to join them the last 3 years to take photos of the event, the sponsors and most importantly the wish-kid!

My aunt Linda is one of the most genuine people on the planet. Kind, honest, giving; she is the type of person who would give you the shirt off of her own back if you needed one, without a doubt in her mind. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who take advantage and abuse kind-hearted souls, like her. However, she recently found someone who loved her and shared her laughter, joy, and friendship...a partner who was equal, not someone to take and take and take. I am SO happy for my aunt. When she told me she was going to marry the love of her life, Bev, on Valentine's Day in Kauai, I was ecstatic.

My mom and I flew down to be with them on their big day and were lucky enough to stay with them for a few additional days. Below are some photos of our trip. I took some of them getting ready and a couple of the days afterward. The ceremony photos are all by a Hawaiian photographer named Pake Salmon; www.pakesalmon.com (who, by the way, is one of the coolest people I've EVER met). She and her girlfriend, Jessica and cousin Mana took us to a Hawaiian Luau and were nice enough to spend a couple days with us. We had a blast with them!

Lynn and I met in Arizona when we were both waitresses and going to school. Her parents live in Vancouver, WA and they decided to do a wedding in their backyard. This beautiful couple contacted me about maternity and newborn photos and it turned out we have a handful of friends in common which was really neat...all non-related to each other! They have been together since high school! They're such a sweet couple and they genuinely enjoy each other, which I love to see! We took their maternity photos on a gorgeous day and just a couple weeks later, Ashlee and Trask gave birth to their beautiful, healthy baby girl (3 weeks early!) She was ready to see the world :-) And we did a lifestyle shoot in their home for the newborn photos, so intimate and comfortable for their precious new addition.

It is so much fun to see families grow. I just adore being able to capture these milestones for families. I was lucky enough to capture Timothy's newborn photos too (he, however, hated me!) We're buddies now, we did lots of tickle bombs and had a ton of fun while little sis was being tended to.

Caroline, was just an angel, an absolute sweetheart. Who, by the way, looks like the feminine version of Timothy...their baby photos will be hard to tell apart! This is quite the special little family and I had so much fun with them during this session. I am so lucky to be a part of these moments.

The little guy who wears these went to the ER for the whole day today...SCARIEST day of my life. 106 fever, limp little body (until I put him in the bathtub to bring his temp down...then he started screaming and shaking). Luckily, my oldest is a great listener and great big helper, I got him to the ER pretty quickly. They drew blood, gave him an IV, did a chest x-ray, suctioned urine out....needless to say, it was a horribly traumatic day for him....and me, and brother and dad!

It was a scary couple days having the little one at the ER and not drinking, so my photos were put on the back burner. ;-/ But this little purple snack that my great friend brought him were some of the only things he would even try....for days

Project 365 | January 2015

I've committed myself, project 365, here I come. A photo a day for a whole year. The idea behind it for me is to get in the habit of pulling my camera out when I see something I want to photograph, but never do (for this reason or that). I know it will be hard, but I'm excited to challenge myself. I have lenses I'd like to better learn, and am excited to force myself to use them!

My kids won't be this young forever and while they hate getting their photo taken, (you'll probably see a lot from behind), it is important for me to document these days. The only way to relive these moments for me, is to have them in photographs. I love lifestyle photography (documentary style with some direction, but real moments & real emotions), that is my passion and what I've set out to become better at

I have some goals and themes I'd like to accomplish with this project, but mainly for me, it is documenting our life how we're living it. Trips to see grandma & grandpa, the seasons changing, playing new games...the simple day-to-day joys. While I'll be bettering myself as a lifestyle photographer, I'm able to notice moments I want to capture, and using unique points of view while getting simple everyday nuances on camera.

Christmas tree farms can be such a fun setting for winter photos, it usually gets kids excited, too! Except in this case....Mr. Sully he was not in the mood for photos, or for laughing or even smiling. It was quiet the opposite, actually, he gave me the stink-eye for nearly the entire time! LOL! I love that kid.

This session was so much fun! I had never done a shoot at a tree farm, but it was a blast! Hard with a newly walking toddler, muddy conditions, and a cute outfit! We walked away much dirtier than we came, but it was a lot of fun. I was sweating chasing adorable little Naomi around even though it was freezing out!

We accomplished our goal though, we took the "Christmas" part of Merry Christmas and Allison sent the "Merry" part to her husband who is deployed now. Adorable family, Christmas photos accomplished...what a fun day!

So, I didn't think that I would start making these photos for clients. They're very near and dear to my heart. They take an unreal amount of time, energy, precision....and then it's my "art." So, doing these photos for others creates a lot of room for misunderstanding because what I perceive as my art, someone else may see differently.

This is Collin! Mr. Collin was turning 5 and one of the things he loves most, are Skylanders. What a perfect "project" photo, right? I hear from his mom that the photo was a terrific surprise for him that he loved.

My last senior of the year, this is Jake. He was a little apprehensive about getting his photos taken. He knew he wanted some, but who wants to sit in front of a camera for hours...I don't blame him. And we crammed his session in between mini sessions, so his time was limited AND it was raining!

Getting to know Jake was a lot of fun, though, he is an artistic, sarcastic, fun-loving guy! He was hard to crack, he didn't want to give in to my corny jokes...but we did get some really genuine smiles eventually. I had a good time talking to him about his art, drawing and photography.

I swear after every time I do mini sessions, I always tell myself, "NEVER AGAIN!" Ha...but somehow, every year, I seem to do them again.

The weather was awful, it rained on every time slot. I ended up cramming a senior session into the mix, because his deadline was approaching rapidly, and needed to get them done...it rained on him too.

But, after it was all said and done, the photos were adorable. I got Addy to smile HUGE even though she hated her teeth. I was able to get Timothy to genuinely SMILE for the first time ever! We captured adorable Christmas card photos of Nathan. There were so many great things that outweighed the bad. So many things to be happy about

Birth is such a miraculous thing. It is fascinating that we're able to grow a tiny human inside our body and deliver them as breathing, functioning little people. When you're in the moment (it seems like forever), but really it goes by quickly. You miss so many tiny details and moments because you're living it through a horrendous amount of pain. However, we're fortunate that we are now able to relive those moments through photography and video...if we so choose.

This was the first birth that I was able to be a part of as a photographer. And I couldn't have been happier to have it be one of my best friends, who I cherish dearly. Missy was AMAZING. If you know Missy, you know she doesn't make a very big deal of anything...she's laid back, let's things happen as they happen. Well, birth was no different, she made it look easy....a total trooper. I even forgot about some of the moments, and cried all over again looking back through the photos. What an incredible thing to be a part of. Beautiful Lainey was born at 1:39pm on 11/02/2014. She's the most perfect little package to complete the Bachmeier family. Congratulations guys, I am so happy for you!

I love to take portraits of people, it makes me so happy when they see & love their photos. But, what makes me happier than that, is being able to use my creativity to put together pieces that people are intrigued by.

I only took one digital photography class in college, because most of what I did was film (crazy how much has changed in 10 years). But in my digital class, I tested boundaries and created images with multiple levels of myself, mainly. My teacher LOVED them and thought the idea was so much fun. (I'll try to dig up my college photos and scan them here to see). It was something I wanted to continue to do...but life happens, I became more and more busy. Now, however, Jackson is at the age where he loves playing pretend. And what better way to document him in his 3 year old self with the toys/books/puzzles he loves right now. So, I created "Project Jackson." My creative outlet from my day to day portraits. And I have so many ideas in my head I cannot wait to create...so check back occasionally to see more :-) Thanks for your love! Here are a few from college that I dug up.

This is my first attempt for a college project. It is a bunch of "me's"...possibly my multiple personalities. At least that's what my professor said. He thought it was creative and hadn't been attempted by any previous students yet, yay! So, I made one for my roommate, Courtney. We had a lot of fun with this one!

My final project for the year was this giant me, with all the little me's attacking. The resolution now is pretty bad, it was changed to 72 ppi, but then enlarged :-/ The only copies I have, are these three prints. My computer crashed shortly after I graduated and I lost all of my digital files.

One huge compliment as a photographer, is when someone contacts you and says they had their senior photos taken already, but were not happy with how they turned out and want you to take them! Hooray!

What is so sad about this session for me, was that I coached this young lady in softball when she was 12. 12! Now, she is a stunningly beautiful SENIOR! Where does the time go?

This is a session which is very dear to my heart. Jill is one of my mother's best friends and we consider her part of our family. Jill lost her husband a few years ago (seems like yesterday) and since then, she has struggled with reoccurring cancer. Both of her children are grown and live away from home, so the moments they are home with her are so very important and special to her. She is such a strong woman that has been through a rough battle. So, being able to put the love, emotion and happiness she has when she is with her children is something that makes my heart happy.

The love that radiates from this couple when they're together is amazing. They're playful, they love each other so much, they hug & kiss and genuinely want to! (That may sound weird, considering these are engagement photos and they're getting married....but you'd be surprised).

I love this little Senior girl right here! She used to be one of my neighbors and her family is just awesome. I could tell she had some ambivalence about taking photos, but towards the end, and getting her into her softball gear, she was more comfortable in front of the camera. I'm not sure why, she's gorgeous inside and out! By far, her softball ones are my favorite! She's in her element and what better way when you're taking senior photos...that's what they're all about!

Miles drove down from Issaquah, WA to have photos taken! WOW, I feel special! :-)

Well, the real story is that he has family who happen to be my old next door neighbors, who are practically family now. So, they chose a time to drive down when they could visit family AS WELL AS get beautiful photos taken.

We had a great time! Such a neat kid. Natural behind the camera, great smile, awesome personality. We walked down the Salmon Creek trail and found all sorts of beautiful backdrops. Then headed to a golf course nearby and took some golf shots! An incredibly fun session!

One of my most favorite people in this world. Missy is a fellow photographer and one of my very best friends. She and I are like long, lost sisters. We have very similar values, families, shooting styles...it is so great to find friends like this as an adult (even though our families have known each other since grade school).

Missy takes my family's photos and I finally was able to return the favor by capturing some of her maternity photos. She's an absolute natural beauty, but like most photographers, prefers to be behind the camera....but just look how gorgeous she is!

A perfect little bundle of joy. This little angel, was giving his parents a tough time with sleep. And when he was awake, he let you know by screaming at the top of his lungs. But before we got him really upset, we were able to sneak dad in a few of the photos!

This was my first "Shoot & Share" with other photographers. Now that my network is growing, these gatherings are a good way for fellow photographers to meet and exchange work.

Missy is pregnant, and some gals from her networking group wanted to take photos for their portfolios. She invited me along to meet them and get some head shots for my marketing packets! YAY!

It was great to meet these other gals, you can never have too many friends in photography. There are endless possibilities for when you may need help with weddings/sessions or referrals.

2 months is a hard age to photograph. They're too old to sleep when you want, but yet still too young for tummy time and sitting. And little miss Emma, here, she was not in the mood to be fussed with! She had just gotten shots at her 2 month appointment and hadn't slept...so, can you blame her? I certainly cannot.

But what an absolutely beautiful little princess, with parents who adore her! With my youngest now 9 months old, I just wanted to hold her and cuddle her because she is just still so little...and sweet! I miss that age! She is just beautiful and not loved at all ;-)

When Cara asked me to shoot some photos at her family BBQ since her whole family was going to be in town, I was excited! I had met Cara when I did her business headshots and after a short time, we got along great. She and I are both the youngest in families of all boys (3 brothers for me, 4 for her)...so I knew her family dynamic would be a lot like mine. Sarah and I are....3rd cousins...I'm not completely sure on that! So, when she contacted me about doing her son's newborn session, I was stoked! Sarah and I haven't seen each other probably since high school.

What a little peanut Jonathan was, he didn't even push down my beanbag to make an indentation! But he just melted my heart, what an angel. He wasn't really having the whole sleep thing, so he just hung out and gave us a furrowed brow....which I love!

Last year was my first year taking photos for a golf tournament that the Tonkin's put on for Make-A-Wish. After taking photos and being a part of something so wonderful, I couldn't resist doing it again this year.

This year, the golf tournament raised $40,000 for Make-A-Wish! According to the MAW director, that will be able to cover 8 wishes this year. For this tournament, a child who has recently fulfilled their wish, comes out with their family and talks about it.

This year, Luke and his family had recently gone to Disneyworld and they came to share their adventure with us. Luke is 6 years old, born with half of his heart and has undergone 8 surgeries so far in his short life. Such a strong, brave little boy and his family. Moments in life, like this, allow you to take a step back and appreciate life.

Weddings can bring out a lot of emotions in people, some good, some not so. But the love between Tim and Anna, and the love they share with their family was breathtaking. The emotions were running high, and they were all wonderful. Anna had gifts made for her mom and for her dad that brought tears to everyone's eyes. Tim made a toast to Anna at the reception that was so thoughtful and touching, there were few dry eyes. That seemed to be the theme, and it was amazing. There were some unexpected highlights as well, like when Anna was ready to fight the photo-bombers in the park, and when everyone realized Aaron Rodgers was a guest. What an amazing day, and I am so happy I was a part of it. Here is a small breakdown of the day. Congratulations Tim and Anna, you both are amazing.

3-legged races, big BBQs, bonfires, piñatas, that's what family reunions are all about! I shot this family's reunion and it seemed like everyone was have a blast. With somewhere around 75-100 people, we managed to shove everyone together for a photo!

Little Mr. Thomas! This little guy is going to have quite the celebration every year on his birthday, because his birthday is the day before the 4th....and well, his family LOVES to celebrate with fireworks! Engagement shoots are so much fun! Especially when the couple loves each other as much as these too! I hardly had to direct them at all, they genuinely love each other's company. They're happy, they're excited for their engagement and wedding....it was beautiful! Despite it being our hottest day to date this year, they still hugged, kissed and stayed close! It was a perfect night and some beautiful photos came of it!

These beautiful people here are my cousins! We've grown up together, and I love them all to pieces! This year, Jodi graduated and Jake is headed to High School, so they thought it would be fun to get photos of them all together. What an incredible family. Fun-loving, energetic, positive...when they're together, you can just tell they have a great time with one another. It was a cold morning despite how adorable their summer outfits look! They were troopers though and rocked the perfectly coordinated outfits. Lylah has a special place in my heart, she has the spunk, attitude, and silly personality that makes my job a lot of fun. I just adore her and her mother, Steph.

I used a new style of editing for some of these photos, a muted, dramatic effect. It is different from my normal editing, but I love how it looks...let me know in the comments if you love or hate it! Just because I love it, doesn't mean it is something people want to hang on their walls :-)

{ Day in the Life | Mine #2}

Ahhh 1 year olds! Their energy, independence and hard-headedness make me want to scream one minute and then melt my heart the next! I'm pretty sure little Timothy has it out for me! Elliott was quite possibly my favorite kid to photograph...ever (sorry everyone else, you're probably very close behind!) He has the most playful, enduring spirit. He has a genuine smile that melts my heart and is like any other typical 3 year old...he loves to play and kick and jump in puddles! Thanks Sara, for letting him! I had such a blast with him, catching his beautiful spirit...kids like him keep me happy in my job! Even though it was pouring down rain and we had to stay undercover most of the time, I still had a blast!

I lived in Arizona for 6 years while I went to college (and got my Photography degree, actually :-D). My husband and I have travelled back to AZ the last two years and this year decided I would hold a day for mini sessions for some of my old friends. Unfortunately, two ended up cancelling and I didn't get to see them at all, I was bummed, but hopefully I'll see them next time around. It was amazing to see old friends and meet their new families. Time goes by so quickly, our lives change so much over just a few years....we've been gone almost 6 already :-/

One of my girlfriends wanted to surprise her husband with some photos of their little boy for Valentine's Day. He is quite the Xbox guru, so for their maternity photos, we put his game headset on her belly....(tried with his newborn photos and failed), then I stopped in and captured a couple @ 6 months in his daddy's game chair! The result was priceless and his storyboard standout board was a hit as a gift!

This was my first attempt at "Day-in-the-life" photography. I am not a person to carry my camera around with me all the time and pull it out when it is the perfect photo opt...I wish I was. I do have the patience, however, my family and husband do not! They don't share the same love of photography with me, and feel it's more of a chore. So, as a compromise, I have decided to take one day every 6 months (or so) and document our entire day, start to finish. I'll always choose a day that Lance has off with us, so when the kids look back at these images, they get to see how much fun we have as a family!

{ Baby Jackson's Choo Choo goes to Vegas }

So, the first time we left our son Jackson for more than a couple hours is when we went to Vegas with friends when he was about 10 months old. It was really tough leaving him for a couple days, even knowing he'd be in great hands! So, I brought his favorite little train with me and my husband and I took photos of everything we did with Jackson's train. He was really into looking at photos at the time, and when we came home, we showed him all of the photos and explained what the "Choo-choo" was doing in each one. It was a really great way for us to ease our anxiety with leaving him behind and it gave us something to bring home and show him. Here is the "Choo-choo's" adventures, obviously, he is talking to Jackson in the captions ;-)

This road here is called the "Strip." There are really neat buildings and casinos and at night there are a lot of bright, colorful lights!

This one is called the Eiffle Tower! Hopefully someday we'll get to visit the real one!

WHOA! Do you see that motorcycle coming out of the building?!? Cool, huh?

I was rolling through a casino and saw this slot machine with fishies on it! I knew you'd want to see it!

I found this cool boat too! I wish you were here to see all these fun things!

This lady here is called the Statue of Liberty! The real one is in New York...I'm sure we'll get to go there someday!
